Economics/Political Science Careers

This major is available for students who have a strong interest in both of these disciplines and whose career interests lie, for example, in fields such as government or the legal profession.

Economics/Political Science (94-95 credits):

  • Econ 206, 207, 303, 306, 307, 310
  • Math 124 or Math 157 or equivalent
  • DSCI 205 or equivalent
  • 12 additional credits in upper-division economics courses, under departmental advisement.
  • PLSC 250; 271 or 291; 261; 372, 462
  • 9 additional credits from the American Politics and Public Policy field
  • 4 additional credits from the Political Theory field
  • 8-9 additional credits in upper-division political science electives, to complete the total 94-95  credits of this program.
  • Econ/PLSC 491 or approved alternative
  • Take one Communication Focus (CF) course and complete the upper-division Writing Proficiency (WP) requirement. The CF course must be taken within CBE while the WP requirement can be met with courses from any of the combined major departments. These requirements can be completed as part of the above required and elective courses.

After the declaration of major, a student will be assigned a faculty adviser with whom the student must consult concerning required and elective courses in the chosen major and concentration. The faculty adviser may also be a source of information concerning career objectives and opportunities.
